Joyce DiDonato Master Class For Opera Singers Ages 18–35 February 21–23, 2015
Renowned mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato, as part of her Carnegie Hall Perspectives residency, presents a series of three master classes focusing on opera arias. Four singers will be selected to participate in this set of public events, which will be held in the Judith and Burton Resnick Education Wing and streamed live online. Highlights of this extraordinary opportunity include attending Ms. DiDonato’s performance of Rossini’s La donna del lago at the Metropolitan Opera and select online preparation with the artist. Additional sessions on breathing, diction, and career development will complement the program.
Application Deadline: October 15, 2014
Invited candidates will be notified by November 14, 2014.
In addition to a completed online form, all applicants must submit a short biography (100-word maximum), a current headshot, a one-page resume, two letters of recommendation, a short essay (250-word maximum) answering the question, "Why do you sing?", and an audition recording. The audition recording (audio-only files are not accepted) should include your unedited performances of two arias, one in Italian and the other in a language of your choice.
Audition feedback will be offered to all applicants, and will be sent soon after the invitations.
All materials will be submitted electronically through DecisionDesk, a service that provides a digital audition platform to many performing arts schools and programs. As part of the application, you will be asked to enter e-mail addresses for your recommenders—two are required, a third is optional. They will receive a link to an online recommendation form after you submit your completed application. Please note that this e-mail will be sent directly from DecisionDesk (not Carnegie Hall). Your references will have until November 3 to complete and submit their confidential recommendations. Application Fee
A $10 application fee is required at the time you submit your application. Practical Information
Invited participants are expected to arrive in New York City the day before the master class begins and depart the day after it concludes. Shared hotel accommodation is provided on that basis. Expenses of up to $350 (domestic) and $650 (international) will be reimbursed to each participant traveling from outside the New York City area.
